Mechanic Stabs Friend To Death Over Ex-girlfriend in lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Usman Abubakar, for allegedly stabbing his friend, Adio Jimoh, to death in the Iyana oba, Ojo area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect killed Jimoh during a scuffle over Abubakar’s ex-girlfriend, identified as Ayinke.
It was gathered that Abubakar had separated from Ayinke after a disagreement but the latter went to meet Abubakar’s friends so that they could appeal to him to take her back.
It was learnt that during a reconciliatory meeting, Abubakar beat up Ayinke, who then reported him to his friends.
The suspect was allegedly attacked by his friends during which he stabbed Jimoh to death.
The suspect reportedly hid in a police post before he was arrested by policemen from the Ojo division.
Abubakar, a secondary school dropout, told the police he acted in self-defence and did not mean to kill the victim.
He said, “I lost my parents when I was very young. I dropped out of school when I was in SS2 due to financial constraints and I became a mechanic.
“Jimoh was my friend and I did not have any misunderstanding with him before that fateful day. On September 13, around 9pm, I was in the house of one of my friends, Riliwan, when I saw my former girlfriend, Ayinke, enter the room with her friend, Olamide.
“I immediately warned her and ask her to leave, but she did not answer me. She started abusing me and later grabbed me by the shirt and when I saw it was getting out of hand, I forced myself out of her hands.”
He said Ayinke and Olamide left the room and he later decided to leave for his own apartment on Prince Adebayo Street, Iyana Oba.
He claimed that he was on his way home when two men he identified as Ibrahim, aka Yahoo, and Basoro attacked him for assaulting his former girlfriend.
He said, “The two of them said I beat Ayinke and they attacked me, but I escaped and ran to my house. When I got home, I met my landlord and his wife and as I was narrating what happened to them, six of my friends arrived with broken bottles.
“They did not even bother to listen to my side of the story. Jimoh first gave me a punch before another one hit me. Jimoh then brought out a knife and I tried to snatch it from him. I succeeded in getting the knife from him and stabbed him in the chest.
“I ran to a police post and it was there some members of the Oodua People’s Congress came to identify me through my photo that I was the one that killed Jimoh.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased’s corpse was deposited in a mortuary, but his family members retrieved it before the police could conclude investigations.
A source said the family had also stopped responding to police calls, adding that the police were working hard to gather evidence against the suspect.
He said, “The matter has been deadlocked because of his family’s reluctance to help the police. They have stopped coming and they have even buried him without waiting for an autopsy to be conducted on the corpse. The only thing right now is that the man has confessed to the crime.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, promised to get back to our correspondent but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Brig General Ransome-Kuti’s mother speaks out ‘Boko Haram spoilt my son’s career’
After months of court-martial sitting, the army convicted and jailed Ransome-Kuti for his role in the Boko Haram war.
Premium Times reports that the Brigadier General’s mother, Mrs Abimbola avies’ blood pressure sprung up when she heard the news.
The publication had a recent interview with Mrs Davies, where she pleaded with the Army to have mercy on her son.
”I wonder why they singled him out, and treat him in this manner. He has been wearing army uniform when he was 11 years old. You can imagine somebody that has been serving the nation for 40 years, that they now come to give this kind of judgment. I don’t know why.”
“It is his brother and his wife that were begging me, because I don’t know how my BP (blood pressure) just spring up immediately I heard the news. I was shaking, that how come? How can Boko Haram issue come and spoil somebody’s career? Somebody that has been serving the nation for 40 years.”
“Right from NMS (Nigerian Military School), he was Drum Major there. And he’s one of the best students there. Many people liked him, teachers, everybody. Over 300 Houses Submerged as River Benue Overflows Its Banks
A sudden surge in the water level of River Benue has left over 300
houses and huts submerged, with many families rendered homeless in
Makurdi, the state capital.
The unexpected flood, which also swept away property and valuables worth millions of Naira, may have created a major humanitarian crisis in the town and it’s environs.
Among the worst hit areas are Wurukum, Wadata Rice Mill, Agboughoul, Kutcha Utebe and Gydo Villa area settlements, while all the buildings that are less than 500 meters from the shore of the river and those directly behind the New Garage Road are also facing the prospect of going under the fast rising river.
One of the victims and resident of Wadata Rice Mill settlement, John Agboyi, said residents of the area were taken aback by the unanticipated flood.
“Its strange, we went to bed last night, only to wake up this morning to discover that flood water has overtaken our homes and neighbourhood, all we did was to battle to rescue some of our property from the fast rising flood water,” he said.
At Kutcha Utebe where families were seen moving their property from their homes, a resident, Terhile Fidelis, said the flood washed away most of his property before he could mobilize enough support and help to move them away.
He said: “My worry is that I do not have anywhere to go to with my family at the moment. I just can’t understand why this sudden rise in water levels cannot be adequately tackled by the government.”
Efforts to reach the Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, Mr. Nick Wende, on the issue failed as he did not pick his calls nor reply to the message sent to his phone.

Terrible Accident occurs on Obosi-Nkpor Road in Anambra
During the early hours of today, a horrific accident occured on Obosi-Nkpor Road in Anambra State.
According to a blogger who broke the news online,
The accident happened around 2am today tuesday 27th October. Three vehicles were involved.
All the occupants of the bus was said to have died except for a baby. The bus and the small car in the gutter were from Cross River state and they came to Onitsha to buy stuffs; they were returning to Cross River state. According to eye witnesses, the big truck caused the accident.
It was said that the traders have started their journey back to Cross river states when they decided to follow that road (as they were told that robbers were robbing at Upper Iweka that night). Their bodies have been deposited at St Edwards Mortuary Obosi Anambra.
Very tragic. Based on the description, a mix of preventable factors caused this accident. We can only pray for the families of the victims and hope things get better.
