Osun state government appoints Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi as Oluwo Of Iwo

The Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has announced the appointment of Prince Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi of the Gbaase Ruling House as the new Oluwo of Iwo following the completion of necessary procedures by the kingmakers. This was contained in a letter of appointment dated 9th of November, 2015 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti.

The appointment of a new Oluwo was stalled following the demise of the immediate past monarch, Oba Ashiru Olatunbosun Tadese in February 2013 due to the legal tussle over the Amended 2008 Iwo Chieftaincy Declaration. This case was eventually set aside by an Osun State High Court and this paved way for the appointment of Akanbi. The new Oluwo, Prince Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi is a Canada-based contractor and is the Chief Executive Officer of Prince Global Nigeria Limited. He is also a childhood friend of the new Ooni of Ife, Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
