Dasukigate: Army to release officers for prosecution as EFCC monitors ex-service chiefs’ accounts

The Nigerian military has indicated its readiness to release for prosecution, any of its indicted officers in the ongoing arms funds diversion fraud to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, made this revelation to journalists on Monday.

The Defence spokesperson said the DHQ would cooperate with the EFCC and also support any effort that would rid the society of corruption.
Abubakar said the military would be willing to hand over any indicted personnel for probe whenever a request was made by the EFCC.
He was quoted by Punch Newspapers, to have said: “The military’s position is that we are in support of the ongoing campaign against corruption in this country. Corruption is a disease which retards national development, national prosperity and national security.”
Meanwhile, the EFCC is believed to be working with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit to monitor bank accounts of former service chiefs and military bosses invited for questioning by the commission.
The EFCC’s Special Task Force on the arms scandal probe has reportedly sent a list of individuals and companies whose accounts are to be monitored, to the NFIU.
The commission is expected to freeze the accounts of any officer, ex-service chief or companies that are holding huge amount of funds and the owners of the accounts will be asked to explain the source of the funds.
“The commission will definitely look into the financial operations of those indicted military personnel.
“It might not be automatic to move against their accounts. Such a decision would be determined by the outcome of the investigation
